Updates in Round 2 of Carnegie Community Engagement Classification for Australian Universities

Building on the success of Round 1, the Carnegie National Advisory Committee (NAC) has refined the Australian application and guide to make participation even more accessible, meaningful, and impactful.

Key improvements include:

  • Clearer, more engaging language designed for Australian universities
  • Emphasis on locally relevant priorities, including Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and equity groups
  • Alignment with national frameworks such as ERA and the Engagement and Impact Assessment
  • Integration with sector priorities and policies, including the Australian Universities Accord and UN Sustainable Development Goals

This round is an opportunity for universities to shine, strengthen their community engagement practices, and join a growing network of institutions committed to social impact.

Public announcement of the classification at Engagement Australia Conference – July 2027
