She leads an innovative program of research and translation to reduce the impact of substance use, with a focus on improving health outcomes for vulnerable and disadvantaged groups, and ddressing stigma and discrimination associated with alcohol and drug use.

Steph leads several digital projects, including Cracks in the Ice, a national online portal funded by the Australian Government Department of Health to develop and disseminate evidence-based resources about crystal methamphetamine, and The Illicit Project, an interactive neuroscience-based harm reduction program for young people. She also works closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to co-develop and disseminate culturally appropriate resources to prevent and reduce the impact of substance use.

She completed her PhD in 2015 at the University of South Australia and subsequently held appointments at the World Health Organization in Geneva, focusing on the public health impact of illicit drugs and the translation of evidence into international policy.
