17 Apr Engage at Lunch #1 – Right Here, Right Now
Right here, right now:
Co-designed research to prevent abuse and promote personal safety in young people with disability
17th April at 1.15pm AEST
Sally Robinson
Associate Professor, Centre for Children and Young People
Southern Cross University
This event will showcase new national research which is grounded in the stories, priorities and ideas of young people with disability about promoting safety and preventing abuse.
Developed in partnership with community organisations and conducted with young people with disability in key advisory and community research roles, the project took a co-design approach with people with disability.
Sally will present key results from the research, focusing on implications which help policy makers and practitioners across multiple fields to critically examine what we can do ‘right here, right now’ to respond to some strategic opportunities in abuse prevention and safety for young people with disability, including
- the recommendations of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse;
- the incoming NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission;
critical tensions and opportunities across state and commonwealth policy settings where young people’s safety is often at risk.
