Startup Stories – University of Newcastle

startup stories

Startup Stories is a community event series held at one of the University of Newcastle’s collaborative spaces for innovation, Three76 Hub. Over an easy-to-fit-into-your-schedule BYO lunch, a startup founder talks candidly about their experience as an entrepreneur and business owner – the highs, the lows, the wins, the mistakes and all. Startup Stories provides real-life examples of the different stages of the startup journey, creating a forum for startups to share and learn and also for the community to see tangible evidence of entrepreneurship making a difference in our regions.

The program is one of the initiatives run by the University of Newcastle’s Integrated Innovation Network (I2N) that links four New South Wales innovation hubs with programming designed to support and develop innovation and entrepreneurship in the region. I2N and Startup Stories are supported by the NSW Government’s Boosting Business Innovation Program.

In the year of launch, 2017, 25 Startup Stories events were held, attended by over 400 people, 94% of whom were community members. As well as attendees in person, the events were shown on Facebook Live and YouTube, reaching a further 1,500 people. The entrepreneurs featured have created startups in areas as diverse as technology, health, finance, marketing and recreation.
