The University of Sydney is a proud partner of Story Factory

As the university for all of Sydney, the University of Sydney invests in opportunities to enrich the learning and futures of young people. With youth creative writing centres in Redfern and Parramatta, Story Factory is a not-for-profit organisation that supports young people from under-resourced communities to strengthen their literacy and find their voice through creative writing and storytelling.

Since 2012, Story Factory has engaged over 55,000 young people through creative writing workshops, led by their expertly trained Storytellers with personalised support and tuition from volunteers. They aim to address the staggering five-year academic achievement gap between advantaged and disadvantaged schools through a range of evidence-based writing programs to support students’ literacy, creativity and confidence. Year-long programs, such as Year of the Novella and Year of Poetry, provide the opportunity for students to write, edit and publish their very own book.

Story Factory is a magical space. A dreamlab where creativity is nurtured by empowering students with skills, resources, opportunities, and a sense of community. —Amuor, Story Factory Year of Poetry alumni.

The University’s commitment to community engagement is a testament to the institution’s recognition of its broader social responsibilities. By sponsoring and partnering with community focused organisations, particularly those aimed at supporting under-resourced communities, the University is fulfilling its role as a leader in social change. Along with Story Factory, the University is directly improving the futures of diverse young people.
