USC Sunshine Coast Mind & Neuroscience – Thompson Institute

The Sunshine Coast Mind and Neuroscience Thompson Institute was established in the community in 2018 by USC, as a hub for world-class mental health research, teaching and clinical services. It has built a reputation for using a unique, integrated model of care, which has put it at the forefront of research for some of regional Australia’s most pressing mental health issues, including dementia, suicide prevention, post-traumatic stress disorder, and youth mental health.

Through its PEER Centre (Participation and Engagement in Education and Research) and Lived Experience academic program, the Thompson Institute offers mental health services information, peer support and advocacy, connecting people with Lived Experience, community members, and service providers in education and research. Peer support specific to achieving academic and professional goals is available, and programs that promote and facilitate Lived Experience involvement in training, health sector development and policy making.
